Enja (炎邪) is a character who was introduced in Samurai Shodown V. He is based on Enja Kazuki from Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage. Developers for SSV wanted Enja to be different from Kazuki by making Enja "unable to speak human language." He is voiced by Shintarō Ōhata and Atsushi Yamanishi.
Enja is one of Liu Yunfei's disciples from 1,000 years ago who succumbed to the powers of the demon world. He and his brother became powerful elemental demons that were eventually sealed. However, they were able to break the seal. Upon hearing of this demon, the Kazama ninja clan took action. They ambush Enja in a small village as an attempt to seal the beast. However, Enja's might overwhelmed and burned them to cinders. Enja meant to reunite with his brother, Suija, and steal a spell that Kuraki-sumeragi possessed. The spell allows demons to better fuse with a human host. With this spell, he wished to possess Kazuki's body and mate with a woman to spread his essence in the human world. However, he was sealed by Hazuki into Kazuki's weapon.
Due to their likeliness to one another, the dubious nature behind Kazuki's birth, as well as Enja's need for a human host, several fans speculate that he is actually Kazuki's father. However, this claim also lacks a solid official source and is generally considered to be a conjecture by fans.
A savage and brutal being that will tear through anything that stands in his way.
- Pyrokinesis - Enja can use the power of fire at will.
- Possession - Enja is able to possess and control Kazuki's body.
Enja relies on an aggressive and close combat style where he deals massive damage using punches that mimic Kazuki's sword strikes. He is very easily angered, reflected on how his rage bar needs only a few hits to max out. Suija on the other hand takes the longest for the rage bar to max from taking hits.
Gameplay-wise, he takes on Kazuki's Bust (Rasetsu) moveset and inflicts more damage than Bust Kazuki. On the other hand, it takes skill to string up his attacks together for an effective execution of moves.
