Ivan Sokolov (Japanese: イワン・ソコロフ, Cyrilic: Иван Соколов) is a character from Buriki One. He is likely based on Russian Greco-Roman wrestler Aleksandr Karelin. He is voiced by Hiroyuki Arita.
Story[]
A Russian wrestler, and an Olympic gold medalist in the freestyle class. He focuses on technique over big or flashy moves. In the lead up to the Buriki One tournament, Sokolov was chosen by the Russian Wrestling Association to participate in the regional qualifiers. He made it through to the final round without an issue. Outside of competition he works as a physical education teacher at a high school. [1] Sokolov is also mentioned to have served in the Russian army at some point, learning the basics of Sambo there. [2]
According to his interview on the Buriki One website, Sokolov has an interest in Gai Tendo, having seen him on TV and in magazine articles. He believes Gai is a smart fighter, having observed how he adjusts his fighting style based on his opponent. Though Sokolov believes Gai will make it to the finals, he also states that should they face each other, that he will win. [3]
Personality[]
Solokov is quiet and quite slowspoken outside of the ring, often pausing before speaking. People who talk to him find him difficult to read.[4] Despite this, Sokolov is someone to be feared in the ring. In that setting, he is powerful, quick and frightfully efficient.
Fighting Style[]
He fights with Greco-Roman wrestling, with a focus on tackles and the wide variety of throws, grapples and other maneuvers he can perform after landing these tackles.
