[edit] Main page layout update
Hullo! I am Kirkburn, your friendly local Wikia Gaming Helper!
Hopefully you have read about the skin and ad changes at Wikia's New Style on Central Wikia. If not, I hope you'll have a look.
One of the changes is a block of two ads on each main page. It's possible that they won't always show up, but to ensure your main page continues to work properly when they do, you need to update your main page column formatting code with new column tags.
I have drafted a main page using the new tags on User:Kirkburn/Dev which I hope you can take a look at - feel free to make a copy and edit it. Though the layout may seem restrictive at first, there really is a fair amount you can do with them - for example see these customized main pages - Muppet Wiki, WoWWiki, FFXIclopedia. You may want to chat with your wiki community about what direction to take with a new main page.
If you encounter any problems with the new tags, please let us know.

- I don't know. Visually speaking, it looks a little obtrusive, like it's a little too organized. I never really noticed the ads that much to begin with. I'm indifferent to the new setup. Sake neko 04:31, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- Do we really have to use this layout? Because I prefer the old one. If we really HAVE to use this layout, I think we have to change the Main Page's template. I'm gonna need some help with that. -- Mr.Kraken 15:26, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- I've got to agree with our Admin here in saying I preferred the old layout before any tweaks were done to it. I'm not too big a fan of it the way it is now. Kyosei 22:38, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Does anyone else have the problem of a laggy main page? Sometimes the newer edits don't even show up on the "recent changes" bar until I visit another page. Sake neko 07:03, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

- I really have no clue where to put the logo. About rouletting the images randomly, do you know how to do that? But you know, those images are specific - they link to categories. -- Mr.Kraken 21:05, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

- Maybe we can rearrange the main page to look kinda like the Nintendo wiki instead? That way we can include other SNK related wikias on the main page. A poll sounds interesting too but I doubt many people will partake in it... Sake neko 23:58, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

How about changing the main page so intead of having to mnually update the list of recent articles, there's just a link to the automated "most recent articles" page? Otherwise it might make it look like it's not updated enough, as one miht want to handle a missing article, but forget to update the main page... IkariLoona 17:16, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Wouldn't it be wise to do away with the SvC/Capcom references that are by default assined as the page title that shows up at the browser bar? Especially considering there's also a mention of an unexisting "SNK vs. Capcom 2"... IkariLoona 17:16, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the only way to change the title is to either a) contact a wikia rep or b) ask an admin/wiki owner to change it. Given that the admin hasn't logged in for a while it's probably better to contact wikia directly about it. The current title was added by a wikia rep anyways. Kyosei 03:47, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- It comes from MediaWiki:Pagetitle. Any particular suggestions for what an updated version should be? Ping me if you come up with something!
- Alternatively, you may want to consider adopting the wiki, btw, as the admin has been away a while - see w:Wikia:Adoption requests. Kirkburn (talk)

- Thanks for the info. A quicky-thought title alternative could be "SNK's games, hardware, characters, artists and more", for a more accurate twist on what we have now on display.
- The adminship candidacy looks tempting, but my visits have been irregular (Final Fantasy XI and TV Tropes don't help...), so perhaps one of the more frequent editors would be a better candidate... Still, I'll keep an eye on this page for replies, maybe I'll try if noone else steps up to the task. IkariLoona 18:37, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, for the sake of google hits via keywords better alternatives to have in the title would be Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown or Fatal Fury as these are based on the most popularly visited pages on this wiki. Kyosei 01:27, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Good point - it's probably best to use terms that match the "Most visited pages" mentioned in the Special pages. Speaking of which, I really wish we had a "What links here" link next to others like "Recent changes" and "Special pages". IkariLoona 13:17, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- The "What links to here" link is still on the page, it's just been moved to the bottom of whatever article you're reading. Though I must admit I kind of miss its old spot in the sidebar layout myself. Kyosei 01:52, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

- I wouldn't mind taking adminship here, but only really to be around to take care of the usual maintaining duties such as blocking vandals, deleting spam and such. I won't be able to volunteer myself though until next week though since I was made an admin at another wiki a little over 2 months ago. Need a three month cooldown to apply.
