Uncensored nudity[]

Why on Earth does this OVA contain uncensored nudity??? I thought it was rated +13, and nudity is very rare in fighting game anime. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.83.35 (talkcontribs)

Well, this is a first. Usually, I see people complain about things being censored rather than the other way around. Seeing as it's rated 13+, I'm pretty sure the distributor slapped on a warning label that it included nudity and assumed that anyone over 13 has at least seen people naked before. I've never personally seen this anime but there was most likely nudity there for the purpose of fan service.
I personally don't think nudity is that rare in fighting game anime. Off the top of my head, I've seen nudity in The Street Fighter movie and TV series, the Viruta Fighter TV series, the Fatal Fury movie, and the Toshinden OVAs. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Nudity in general is a fairly common occurrence in anime so it doesn't really surprise me that it would be in this anime as well. My dear friend, it appears you are suffering from a case of culture shock. Kyosei 20:35, October 10, 2009 (UTC)
That's nothing. When I saw uncensored nudity in Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, Tekken: The Motion Picture, Battle Arena Toshinden, and Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer the Movie, I was beyond baffled. It's not right for anime television series or movies rated +13 to contain uncensored nudity. Otherwise, they would be rated +18. Uncensored nudity led Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer the Movie to being rated +18. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.83.35 (talkcontribs)
Eh, why not? It's pretty tame compared to actual +18-rated anime. Even in movies in America rated PG-13, we have mentions of sex, implied acts of sex, and people rolling around in beds. I didn't really think the nudity in any of these titles was that bad and even then most of them released censored/cut versions anyways if people didn't want to see it. It's not like anything explicit was really shown beyond some bare breasts. It's like somehow seeing naked boobs will destroy life as we know it. In any case, this seems to be more of a difference of opinion based on the rating systems and philosophies. I think from the Japanese point of view, it's not that much different from America advertising sex to sell a product. As much as we say we're a bunch of prudes, you've got to admit it's everywhere nowadays. Nudity is just a step up from the same concept.
Most of the nude scenes in the above mentioned titles are all in place for the purpose of fan service. The character who is naked also happens to be one of the most popular. Hence the fan service, I see it as pretty harmless as most of time and the scenes in question aren't that long or lingering. Plus, you have to remember who is directing this particular film. Although I didn't write it in his article, Masami Ōbari is also in the hentai business. It's part of the other reason why I wasn't surprised to hear a mention of nudity. Unless it's made for TV, he'll usually stick it in where he can. Kyosei 21:37, October 11, 2009 (UTC)
Who said that it's okay for anime rated +13 to contain uncensored nudity? I was immensely surpised to see such nudity in Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer the Movie. It is rare in any +13-rated anime, and if it were to exist, the anime would be rated +18 instead. Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer the Movie was targeted at adults only because Shaia, Karin, and Suzu's breasts were completely exposed. I do not think it is a very good idea to contain uncensored nudity in any anime rated +13. Viewers all over the world under age 18 have been offended by uncensored nudity, and all anime containing this is rated +18. If only they had censored complete nudity, this OVA would not be rated +18. I am absolutely sure that I am right. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.83.35 (talkcontribs)
So, is it very explicit compared to the nudity in the Street Fighter or Fatal Fury anime movies? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ridureyu (talkcontribs)
Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer the Movie, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, Battle Arena Toshinden, and Tekken: The Motion Picture were equally explicit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.83.35 (talkcontribs)
IIRC, Street Fighter had Chun-Li's breasts in the shower for a second or two, Fatal Fury had a quick flash of Mai, a moderately longer flash of Sulia, and some clothing damage on Panni. Quite visible, but blink and you'll miss it. I think we've disproven that "nudity is very rare in fighting game anime." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ridureyu (talkcontribs)
Sorry, I just find this whole conversation highly amusing. When you really sit down to think about it, the total amount footage of uncensored nudity is quite small in comparison to the whole picture. At most, it's like maybe one or two minutes out of an hour-and-a-half film. It's one thing when you see it for over half of a movie, but in this, it's certainly not the case at all in the above mentioned anime. I don't really see how having nudity automatically labels it as explicit and rated +18. Kyosei 01:38, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
Just one bit of exposed nipples leads anime to being rated +18 instead of +13. BTW, I'm talking about exposed nipples of women in anime rated +13 or +17. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.83.35 (talkcontribs)
Also, how did you know that Masami is in the hentai business? Any anime rated +13 would NEVER depict the fronts of bare breasts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.83.35 (talkcontribs)
From here. In Japan, +18 = hentai. Obviously if a rated +13 anime that showed bare boobs never existed we wouldn't be having this conversation ;p Oh and little note, you don't have to keep using the {{unsigned}} template. Just type ~~~~. This will automatically sign your "name" and date it. Kyosei 22:51, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
Let me make it a little clear to you. Exposed female nipples = +18. From the child perspective, it is sexually offensive. Now, we've proven that complete nudity is very rare outside of hentai anime. 68.205.83.35 21:08, November 30, 2009 (UTC)
Also, how did you know that the character who is naked also happens to be one of the most popular? Even the least lingering and uncensored nudity can have a significant effect on an anime's age rating. The Shaia Hishizaki shower scene had the most significant effect on the OVA's age rating, leading it to being suitable only for adults. You're the one who's suffering from a case of culture shock. 68.205.83.35 18:01, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

Restarting a new indent since this one is getting too long. You also don't need to tag the unsigned template on my comments' first paragraphs because it's part of my responses. Messages are signed once at the end of whatever the user/person in question is leaving. Ok back to the topic at hand. I don't see how anything was proven. All you've proven to me is that you find any kind of nudity offensive and all of it should be censored from children. Which is fine if you feel that way but doesn't work when trying to use that in a logical debate or claim this should be the case for the rating system. I also don't see how I am the one suffering from culture shock. I don't fit that description at all based on the definition given. Culture shock in essence says you see/experience something different from what you consider the norm in your own culture in a different society and are offended or don't understand it. I'm not really confused about seeing nudity at all in anime or why people take offense to it. Nudity in anime is fairly common and Japanese in general tend not to make a big deal about it as much as Americans do. Come on they have public communal baths ;p

Secondly, this argument is based on the assumption that this anime is rated +13. However, looking at the distributor's website it's clearly labeled for +16 and not rated +18 because that's for the hentai which this anime clearly is not. Even so, even if it were rated +13, there's plenty of anime I've seen with this rating that contains some sort of nudity. Look no further than Magic Knight Rayearth, Tekkaman Blade, Sailor Moon, Arashi no Ceres, Dragonball, Ranma 1/2, etc. Side note, when it comes to fan service, general rule of thumb in anime states the more popular character gets a shower scene. This is seen in the Street Fighter the movie with Chun-Li, the Virtua Fighter anime with Kage-Maru, Dragonball Z with Vegeta, the Fatal Fury Movie with Mai, etc. In this case, nudity in this anime is treated rather nonchalantly, a common side effect that happens when the characters transform as their clothes burn off. The characters themselves do not see nudity as being sexual except for in one scene with the twins.

There is also no clear, empirically, peer-reviewed scientific research to suggest that children would find nudity sexually offensive. In fact, there is evidence which suggests the opposite and that it doesn't really affect a child's upbringing into adulthood or children themselves. In any case, views on nudity would be taught to children anyways based what their particular society or parents teaches them. In some societies nudity is the norm. It's just not as big a deal as you're making it out to be. It's just based on the cultural views you were raised to value. Kyosei 21:49, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

OMG! Are you kidding me?! I'm suing you for thinking that uncensored nudity pointed at the fourth wall is okay! Uncensored nudity HAS a significant effect on any anime's age rating, leading it to being rated +18. I know nudity way better than you do. You are nothing but a total dummy, and uncensored nudity is very rare in fighting game anime. Do you ever think that adults would ever let their children watch anime that contains uncensored nudity, and this anime is even rated +16? Well, think again! All fighting game anime containing this are rated +18! All children find uncensored nudity in fighting game anime sexually offensive, and nudity is a sin.
One more thing: Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer the Movie is clearly a hentai anime where the only pornographic scene is between Ryo and Suzu Asahina. All hentai anime contain fan service, and never too much of it. As long as an anime contains one bit of uncensored nudity (such as a female character's nipples), it is always considered to be a hentai anime. Plus, I'm only talking about uncensored nudity in fighting game anime and its effect on such an anime's age rating. This is actually a misconception about uncensored nudity in fighting game anime. End of discussion. 68.205.83.35 02:20, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
Fighting games that have had animes: Art of Fighting, Darkstalkers, Battle Arena Toshinden, Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, Power Stone, Samurai Shodown, Street Fighter, Tekken, Virtua Fighter and Voltage Fighter. From the above only Art of Fighting, King of Fighters, and Power Stone can claim they have never contained any uncensored nudity whatsoever in any of their anime. All of the above are rated for teenagers or younger. Stating nudity as a sin suggests a religious connotation, thus a personal opinion and not fact. Fact check: this is what is actually considered hentai. Kyosei 04:25, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
Not all fighting game anime are rated +13. Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer the Movie is rated +18 for explicit nudity (e.g. Shaia shown completely nude in a shower and Karin exposing her nipples during her transformation). Who in the world would think that uncensored nudity in fighting game anime is okay? No one! 68.205.83.35 05:11, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
Did I say they were all rated for +13? I said they were all at most rated for teenagers which last I checked for age ranges between 13-19. The movie is rated +16. You are still making a claim based on your own world view and making the assumption that everyone agrees with it. Kyosei 06:12, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
I say that Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer the Movie is rated +18 because it contains uncensored nudity. Not all hentai anime have an abundant amount of uncensored nudity. Plus, you're making the assumption that it's okay for fighting game anime to contain uncensored nudity. I really see how having nudity automatically labels it as explicit and rated +18. Nudity in anime targetted at teens was never treated nonchalantly, is not a step up from the same concept, and the characters themselves see nudity as sexual. Even the least amount of uncensored nudity has a significant effect on the anime's age rating. You're the one who's making a claim based on your own world view and making the assumption that everybody agrees with it. The rating of +18 isn't always for hentai. It applies to any anime containing just one bit of uncensored nudity. It doesn't matter how long nudity is uncensored in a non-hentai anime. This discussion is based on the assumption that this anime is rated +18 despite not being a hentai, not +13. Uncensored nudity in non-hentai anime is not tame compared to actual hentai. Non-hentai anime and manga that contain uncensored nudity include Ikkitousen, Afro Samurai, Agent Aika, Urusei Yatsura, Dragon Ball, InuYasha, Golden Boy, Shuffle!, Utawarerumono, Yatterman, Neorider Casshern, Hurricane Polimar, Gantz, Strike Witches, Virus Buster Serge, Maburaho, Code Geass, Variable Geo, Tekken: The Motion Picture, Street Fighter II V, Battle Arena Toshinden, Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer (the one we're talking about), Nakoruru ADV, School Days, Hyakka Ryōran Samurai Girls, Tenchi Muyo, Street Fighter: the Animated Movie, Fatal Fury: the Motion Picture, Highschool of the Dead, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Lupin III, and All Purpose Cat Girl Nuku Nuku. They are all considered to be rated +18. Also, I do not think nudity in Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer the Movie was left uncensored for the purpose of fan service, but to rate this anime +18. The anime's English distributor did not rate it +16 in any of its DVD box sets, and should have censored all of the nude scene when it had the chance. If that happened, this anime would have been rated +13 instead. Also, what do you mean, you didn't write it in this article? Uncensored nudity is an extremely rare occurrence outside of hentai anime and manga, and it doesn't matter who directs this anime. Uncensored nudity in Japan is just about as offensive as it is in the United States. Uncensored nudity can also be found in the promotional trailer for the game and the very last part of the second stage in Burning Fight (where you can see a nude mermaid). Some websites such as YouTube and Live Video do not allow videos to contain just one bit of uncensored nudity for this reason, and can be tricked into knowing that this anime is rated +18 because they may be suffering from a case of culture shock. You can see what I mean here. Also, I already know about the uncensored nudity in Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, Battle Arena Toshinden, Tekken: The Motion Picture, and Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture in the first place. Saying that naked boobs will destroy life as we know it and affect a child's upbringing into adulthood or children themselves suggests personification, giving them human qualities. If any non-hentai anime that showed naked breasts never existed, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Uncensored nudity has NEVER been kid-friendly. Just what in the world were the dummies making this anime thinking?!?!
And about Darkstalkers and Virtua Fighter, I am not really sure if either one of them has uncensored nudity or not. Because of this, I have never seen either of these anime. Plus, don't tell me that the Virtua Fighter anime has shown Kagemaru's penis. That would have led this anime to being rated +18 for uncensored nudity. The Night Warriors Darkstalkers anime did not contain uncensored nudity. 68.205.83.35 16:53, July 28, 2010 (UTC)
