Hi Mr.Kraken -- we are excited to have SNK Wiki as part of the Wikia community!

Starting a new wiki can be overwhelming, but don't worry, the Wikia Community Team is here to help! We have put together a few guides to getting started. I'm PanSola, a helper on Wikia Gaming stuff. I want to cheer you on for having started a new gaming-related wiki, and see if there is anything I can help a fellow Wikian with. I have been an admin on the GuildWiki for quite a while, and have hung around a number of different wikis. So if you need help with any thing, don't hesitate to ask!

There is a Wikia gaming IRC channel, #wikia-gaming, where you can hop on, ask for help from users of other gaming wikis, or offer your own experiences. You can access it from http://irc.wikia.com/gaming . Different people may be on sporadically, but I'm organizing weekly chats at a fixed time so we can get the most number of people online at the same time to ask/answer questions, or just to hang out. The admins of some of Wikia's biggest gaming wikis (WoW, Halo) often attend them. You can find the time for the next chat by following this link.

If you happen to be technologically-adventurous, I can also help you with handy tools that can enrich the formatting and organization of the wiki such as templates, parser functions, and various MediaWiki extensions.

Heya, just to bring to your attention, when articles here make use of text from Wikipedia, we need to give credit to them (usually can be done with the {{wikipedia}} template). I've added attribution for a few articles, but I need to also go help other wikis so I can't check all articles here. Can you help with giving credit where credit is due? When the secret boss, Red Arremer defeats you with a super, he transforms your character into monsters (he uses the Makai Spell) and when another secret boss, Athena defeats you with a super, she transforms your character into animals (she uses the Heaven Spell... [edit] A Greetings from Samurai Shodown community

Hello, I am Black Shroud, I am one of the central persons in online Samurai Shodown community, I also have a listing from players over the world. I am fan of this franchise for more than 4 years, and over this time I acquired alot of related stuff and info (including some rare stuff as well). Also I am one of biggest experts on storyline of series, and to that end I translated from Japanese as well (and collected links to japanese Samurai Shodown resources). I didnt liked what they did with Samurai Shodown sections in main wikipedia (constantly deleting and shortening info, and for some moment even deleting characters sections, and they had a vote about how the serie is unpopular and doesnt deserves much space on wikipedia). Because of that I simply started to work on my own series of guides (storyline also), and I contacted other knowledgeable people, including asians. Well I see in your wikia things go good so far (and sake neko does good job), so I thought I can double my info here as well, but before that I had several questions, so for starters I will ask your opinion about this:

Few facts about SNK’s big problem:

• SNK creates some pretty good storylines and ingame info and text
• It releases this good original game version in Japan (of course)
• Then need of releasing game in other regions, english-speaking ones, arises
• SNK uses some translators who apparently are very bad on english, I think SNK uses own resources of japanese workers because of lots of EngRish in SNK games (japanese have difficulties as of where to use R or L in english words). They also translate biographies, movelists and all stuff related to game.
• They release english language version of game, with all text full of grammar errors, engRish, various crap from which people laugh out loud....

And, because apparently japanese language is hard, they add some “easier to read japanese words equivalents” with complete and unrecoverable loss of initial japanese meaning and common sense at all.

• We then start the game and have “Haohmal”, “Rimnerel”, “Congratlions”, “Victoly!!”

.. and also some more fatal errors: Ukyo’s style is “Shin Musou Ittou Ryuu” (Divine/True, Dream/Unparalelled, Single Sword Style). Translator reads “Shin” kanji as “Jin”, and “Ittou” (single sword) he breaks in “ichi” (one) and “tou” (blade), making it “Jin Musou Ichi Tou Ryuu”. Then he puts it apparently in hiragana and sends to other translator. That one reads it as “jinmusouichitouryuu” and makes it like “Jinmu Soichi Tou Ryuu” (Sword Style of Soichi Jinmu) and then they put this crap in his and Yumeji’s biography on official site.

• When I suggest to use meaning of term that will be true to intentions of original SNK authors

in place of Official USA meaning, turned in crap by SNK translators I hear “but hey it is official you can look it on official SNK site of that game, and our english-speaking readers wont accept and understand any other version except that official SNK version”. And it looks like some bureaucracy indeed.

• Maybe I am a purist of sorts but I awill be always for doing justice to SNK authors, rather than to their distorters-translators. I hope that this problem can be solved somehow in SNK wikia.

For example if some term was introduced in some specific game, in thread of that game there can be a note “It was substituted by this and this in non-japanese releases, with loss of original sense”, and throughout the text we could use original term or its CORRECT translation on english. Then initial meaning and the very spirit of respective game will be preserved. So please tell me your thoughts.

Something about this old article kinda caught my eye. Apparently there are (were?) plans for online versions of King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown. They were going to be developed by this Korean company, Dragon Fly, or Special Force. They apparently did it for Metal Slug but I'm lost as to how far it went with that (though I did find their site). Anyways, I don't really know how legit these games are since I can't read Korean or Chinese that well. Have you heard any news about any of them? They're interesting ideas either way. I'm the guy who runs the Goketsuji Wiki for the Power Instinct series. Someone put up a link to it here on the Matrimelee article.

Seeing as how you're the boss, I figured I'd ask you if you'd think the articles on the characters from Matrimelee would be of any help to the SNK wiki. It's no big deal either way.

I was kinda wondering of were to put these stories at. They're usually typically dating sim stories but some of them have some fun easter eggs in there (like Yuri's mom not dying and Shiki having another baby). Maybe a separate article or something?
